In a base-10 number system the decomposition of a number using power of ten.

Example

The decimal expansion of the number 5027.3 is: 5027.3 = (5 × 103) + (0 × 102) + (2 × 101) + (7 × 100) + (3 × 10-1) This expansion is also called the expanded form of the decimal number 5027.3.
