Exponent

Numerical or algebraic expression that makes up the second term of an exponentiation, the first term being the base.

Notation

The expression [latex]{a}^{n}[/latex] is read "a raised to the exponent n".

Examples

  • In the expression [latex]{3}^{4}[/latex] = 81, the exponent is 4.
  • In the expression [latex]{25}^{\frac{1}{2}}[/latex] = 5, the exponent is [latex]\frac{1}{2}[/latex].
