Given two similar figures, \(F\) and \(F’\), \(F’\) is called a contraction of \(F\) if the similarity ratio \(r\) of \(F’\) to \(F\) is strictly between 0 and 1.
Synonym of reduction.
A contraction (reduction) is the result of a dilation where 0 < k < 1 (k is the scale factor).
Example
In this illustration, figure \(F’\) is a contraction of figure \(F\).
