Contraction

Given two similar figures, [latex]F[/latex] and [latex]F’[/latex], [latex]F’[/latex] is called a contraction of [latex]F[/latex] if the similarity ratio [latex]r[/latex] of [latex]F’[/latex] to [latex]F[/latex] is strictly between 0 and 1.
Synonym of reduction. A contraction (reduction) is the result of a dilation where 0 < k < 1 (k is the scale factor).

Example

In this illustration, figure [latex]F’[/latex] is a contraction of figure [latex]F[/latex].
