The relationship where two figures can be made to coincide precisely through a direct isometry.

In other words, two geometric figures are congruent when one can be made to perfectly coincide with the other by sliding it but without turning it over. This can be achieved through a translation, a rotation or a combination of these transformations. The figures are then said to be congruent by translation, congruent by rotation, etc.
