Range of a Relation
Set of the end points of the ordered pairs of a relation.
Notation
The range in a relation [latex]\Re[/latex] is noted as Range([latex]\Re[/latex]) and is read as "range of [latex]\Re[/latex]".Examples
- Consider the relation defined by [latex]\Re[/latex](x) = x + 3 in [latex]\mathbb{N}[/latex] . The range of this relation is: {3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, ...}.
- Consider the relation defined by [latex]\Re[/latex](x) = x + 5 in [latex]\mathbb{Z}[/latex] . The range of this relation is: {..., -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, ...}.
- Consider the relation of set A toward set B represented by this arrow diagram :
The range of this relation is: {2, 4, 8, 16, 32}.
