# Logic Blocks

## Logic Blocks

Educational material made up of a set of blocks used in mathematics that includes several objects that are distinct shapes, colours, thicknesses, and sizes.

Logic blocks were introduced in modern mathematics (1960-1975), notably by education instructor Zoltan Paul Dienes. The activities proposed with this material consist in training students’ reasoning for the concepts of a set, difference, logical sequence and classification.

### Properties

• The basic set of logic blocks is formed by 48 blocks with these properties:
• three colours: yellow, red and blue
• two sizes: small or large
• two thicknesses: thin or thick
• four shapes: round, square, rectangle and triangle
• More elaborate sets have been proposed with 60 blocks that have these properties:
• three colours: yellow, red and blue
• two sizes: small or large
• two thicknesses: thin or thick
• five shapes: round, square, rectangle, triangle and hexagon

We can also find sets to which a new colour, such as green, or a new shape, such as a trapezoid, have been added.
