Set of the end points of the ordered pairs of a relation.

Notation

The range in a relation is noted as Range() and is read as “range of “.

Examples

  • Consider the relation defined by (x) = x + 3 in N .
    The range of this relation is: {3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, …}.
  • Consider the relation defined by (x= x + 5 in Z .
    The range of this relation is: {…, -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, …}.
  • Consider the relation of set A toward set B represented by this arrow diagram :
    The range of this relation is: {2, 4, 8, 16, 32}.
