Numerical or algebraic expression that makes up the second term of an exponentiation, the first term being the base.
Notation
The expression \({a}^{n}\) is read “a raised to the exponent n“.
Examples
- In the expression \({3}^{4}\) = 81, the exponent is 4.
- In the expression \({25}^{\frac{1}{2}}\) = 5, the exponent is \(\frac{1}{2}\).
