The point at which all the generatrices of a cone meet is called the apex. It is also the vertex of the cone.
The meeting point of the vertices of the triangles that make up the lateral surface of a pyramid is also called the apex of the pyramid.
The vertex of a triangle that is opposite the base used to calculate the area of the triangle is sometimes called the apex.
