Exponential Equation

Exponential Equation

Equation whose basic form is y = bx where b is a strictly positive real number and not equal to 1.

  • The number b is called the base of the exponential equation.
  • The general form of an exponential equation of base b is y = bx – h + k where the parameters h and k characterize the horizontal and vertical translations, respectively, of the basic equation.

Example

The equation y = 5x is an exponential equation with base 5.
