Symbol used to separate the integer part from the decimal part of a real number written in decimal notation.

Examples

  • The decimal form of the number 15 [latex]\frac{3}{4}[/latex] is 15.75. The integer part is 15 and the decimal part is 75.
  • The decimal form of the number [latex]\frac{7}{3}[/latex] is 2.333 333 ... The integer part is 2 and the decimal part is 333 333 ...
