Decimal Notation

Representation of a real number with a whole part and a decimal part (also called the fractional part) separated from one another by a decimal point.

Examples

  • The decimal notation of the number 12\(\frac{3}{4}\) is: 12.75.
    The whole part is 12 and the decimal part (also called the fractional part) is 0.75.
  • The decimal notation of the number \(\frac{7}{2}\) is: 3.5.
    Its whole part is 3 and its decimal part (also called the fractional part) is 0.5.
