The arc cotangent of a real number x is a real number for which the cotangent is x.
The relation defined by y = arccot(x) is not a function.
Notation
The symbol used to indicate the arc cotangent of a real number x is “arccot(x)” which is read as “arc cotangent of x.”
Examples
In the sexagesimal system of measuring angles, we have:
- arccot(1) = 45
- arccot(1) = 180n ± 45 où where n is an integer.
Because cot(45°) = 1, arccot(1) = 45°.
The same is true for all angles of “45° ± 180°.”
