• In the ratio [latex]\frac{12}{5}[/latex], the numbers 12 and 5 are the terms of the ratio.
• In the proportion [latex]\frac{24}{8}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{6}{2}[/latex], the four quantities are terms of the proportion.
• In the addition 5 + 12 = 17, the numbers 5 and 12 are the two terms of the addition.
