Positive Number

Real number that is greater than or equal to zero.

The only number that is both positive and negative is the number 0.
In general, the sign of a positive integer is implied and we do not write it.
The opposite of a positive number is a negative number with the same absolute value and vice versa.

  • The opposite of –5 is 5.
  • The opposite of 7 is –7.

Examples

The numbers 5, 7, \(\frac{1}{2}\), \(\sqrt{6}\), 2.8 and 13π are positive numbers.
