Multiplicand

In a multiplication, name given to the number to multiply by the other.

Examples

  • In the multiplication 5 × 9 = 45, the number 5 is the multiplicand, the number 9 is the multiplier and the number 45 is the product. We can also say that the numbers 5 and 9 are the factors in this multiplication operation.
  • In the multiplication 0.5 × 9.2 = 4.6, the number 0.5 is the multiplicand, the number 9.2 is the multiplier and the number 4.6 is the product. It is not very pertinent to talk about factors if the two numbers are not whole numbers.
