Inequality

Mathematical statement that contains one or more variables and a relation of inequality.

Symbols

The symbols for the relation of inequality are :
  • "<" which is read as "is less than"
  • ">" which is read as "is greater than"
  • "≤" which is read as "is less than or equal to"
  • "≥" which is read as "is greater than or equal to"

Examples

  • In [latex]\mathbb{N}[/latex], the solution set of the inequality [latex]x + 5 > 12[/latex] is : {8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, ...}.
  • In [latex]\mathbb{R}[/latex], the solution set of the inequality [latex]15 + 7 ≥ x[/latex] is : ]–∞, 22].
