Representation of a number as the sum of terms or as the product of factors.
Examples
We can decompose the number 60 in different ways:
- 60 = 36 + 24
- 60 = 3 × 20
- 60 = 2 × 12 + 4 × 9
We can decompose the number 60 into prime factors: 60 = 2 × 2 × 3 × 5.
We can decompose the number 358 according to its position values. This decomposition is called an additive decomposition:
358 = 300 + 50 +8
