A coordinate system is a structured system of appropriate mathematical symbols and elements as well as rules that govern these symbols and elements that make it possible to locate objects like points, regions, etc. in a given space.

The Cartesian plane is a coordinate system that makes it possible to represent and locate mathematical objects in a two-dimensional space.
