Examples

  • In the number 35, the digit 3 occupies tens position and its place value is 30.
  • In the number 3245, the digit 4 occupies the tens position and its place value is 40.
  • The value of the digit 6 in the number 165 is “six tens” or 60.
  • One ten is equivalent to a grouping of 10 ones.

Notations

  • The number 230 can be read as “twenty-three tens”.
  • 1 ten is equal to 10 ones.
  • 5 tens is equal to 50 ones.
  • 10 tens is equal to 100 ones or 1 hundred.
