Operation that associates with every ordered pair of numbers (xy), called the terms of the subtraction, a new number (x − y) called the difference of the two terms.

Examples

  • 5.6 – 3.2 = 2.4
  • 5π – 3π = 2π
  • 5\(sqrt{2}\) – 2\(sqrt{2}\) = 3\(sqrt{2}\)
