Orientation of the Geometric Plane

Orientation of the Geometric Plane

Property of the geometric plane and its figures that describes how the objects and their components are positioned in relationship to one another.

To describe orientation in a geometric plane, simple terms such as “left,” “right,” “above” and “below” are used, as is the direction of the clockwise rotation about a point, the angles of rotation and their sign, etc.

Educational note

In primary and secondary level education, the concept of orientation in a geometric plane is empirical. For example, two angles that turn in the same direction are described as having the same orientation.

Similarly, the figures below are described as being reversed in relationship to each other, and therefore, do not have the same orientation.
