John Venn (1834-1923)

In his logic and mathematics courses at the University of Cambridge, Venn used Euler and Carroll’s representation of sets and syllogisms and replaced Euler’s circles with less rigid curves, which made it possible for all attributes to be illustrated using a single, simple model. He introduced shading to identify empty zones.
His diagrams, known as Venn diagrams, were widely popularized in the 60s during the revision of mathematics programs known as “modern mathematics”.
