Fractional Notation

Representation of a number or an operation on numbers, or an algebraic expression in the form of a division or a quotient of two numbers, numerical expressions, or algebraic expressions.

Notation

Fractional notation uses the horizontal bar to separate the two arguments of the expression.

These expressions are all written in fractional notation:

\(\dfrac{9}{7}\), \(\dfrac{a}{b},\space \dfrac{12 + 7}{5}, \space \dfrac{\sqrt{b^2−4ac}}{2a}, \space \dfrac{x^2+5x−12}{x-4}\)
