Second term in a fraction or in a fractional expression.


Term that indicates how many equivalent parts a whole has been divided into.

Examples

  • In the fraction \(\dfrac{4}{5}\), the denominator is 5.
  • In the fraction \(\dfrac{25}{18}\), the denominator is 18.
  • This indicates that the unit (the whole) has been subdivided into 18 equivalent parts.
  • In the fractional expression \(\dfrac{3x\space + 5}{4x \space −\space 3}\), the denominator is 4x – 3.
